When capable starts to feel costly

Strengths-informed coaching for professionals seeking more sustainable ways of working

You're someone others rely on. You hold things together, navigate complexity, and keep showing up when it matters.

Responsibility has a way of finding capable people, and once it does, it tends to stay.

Yet something has changed. The work still gets done, but it no longer feels the way it once did.

This work explores what that shift may be revealing, helping you understand what is shaping your energy, what may need to change, and what could support more sustainable ways of working.

The purpose isn't to help you do more. It's to create more room for the work that matters most.

How this work often begins

While every situation is different, there are patterns that often bring people here:

When your energy is running low

You may still be functioning well but noticing that work is taking more out of you than it used to. Recovery may be taking longer, and focus is becoming harder to protect.

We explore what these changes may be revealing and consider small, practical adjustments that support a more sustainable rhythm.

When something feels out of alignment

The work may still be going well, yet something feels less like yours than it once did. Parts that used to feel meaningful may have faded, the role may have grown in a direction that doesn't quite reflect how you work best, or you may be considering a change in role or direction.

We explore what has changed, what still matters to you, and what might need to be approached differently.

When responsibility feels heavier than it used to

You may be holding more than you once did, with little space to step back and reflect on how you're sustaining it.

We explore how responsibility is currently being carried, what genuinely needs to remain with you, and where workload, support or ways of working may need to shift.

Moving from insight into practice

Understanding what is happening is an important starting point. From there, we explore what your role, circumstances and priorities may now require.

Strengths crafting supports this process through small, practical adjustments within the context of your work and life. Depending on what emerges, an experiment might involve changing how you approach a recurring task, protecting time for work that needs focus, drawing on a strength differently, or shifting where support or responsibility sits.

These are experiments rather than dramatic changes. They help you learn what happens when you change how work is approached, structured or carried, and use what you learn to guide the next adjustment.

The aim is not insight for its own sake. It is using that understanding to make thoughtful decisions about how you work and the contribution you want to make over time.

I completed a strengths-based profile and coaching session with Sharon from Optimising Strengths, and it gave me a much deeper awareness of my strengths and how to get the most from them. It really helped me refocus across my career, my business, and my roles within Contemporary Coordination.

My goal was to find how I could make my work more sustainable, enjoyable, and energising. Over the past 11 months, I’ve made several changes, and this coaching really helped me reach a much better place to continue the important work we do without compromising my own health and wellbeing.

The Skills Discovery Expert Profile provides a structured way to explore how your strengths, energy and patterns of use are showing up in your work.

It considers all 80 skills through performance, energy and use, distinguishing Realised Strengths, Unrealised Strengths, Learned Skills and Weaknesses. This gives us a richer starting point than simply identifying what you are good at.

The profile can help make visible what you do well and find energising, capabilities you may use less often, things you perform well at greater energetic cost, and areas where support or a different approach may be useful.

We explore what the profile may be showing alongside your role, responsibilities, relationships and circumstances. The aim is not to treat the results as an explanation of you, but as a starting point for understanding what is supporting you, what may be costing more than it appears, and what may be worth approaching differently.

Understanding your strengths in context

Through this process, I gained clarity about which aspects of social work genuinely give me energy, and how these align with my values, interests, and ways of working.

The strengths-focused work helped me connect the dots between what challenges and stimulates me intellectually and the environments in which I do my best work. As a result, I was able to identify and move into a role that feels like a true embodiment of those insights: a values-based workplace that recognises and values me as a person and as a team member, offers responsibility, and provides work that is meaningful, challenging, and mentally engaging.
